ISEET to Replace IIT JEE,AIEEE in 2013

As a part of the reforms proposed by Dr.Ramasami and Prof,Dhande, the entrance examinations for admission to engineering institutions, the Government of India has confirmed its plans to conduct a single Engineering Entrance Examination called ISEET (Indian Science Engineering Eligibility Test) as the single point entrance examination for admissions to undergraduate studies in Science and Engineering with +2 Board marks being accorded a certain weightage . ISEET is to replace the existing national level Engineering Entrance Examinations, IIT JEE and AIEEE.

ISEET – Proposed Examination Pattern:-

As per the latest available information, the ISEET will have two parts of three hours duration which will check the comprehension, critical thinking, logical ability and problem solving ability of Science Subjects. The combined performance of the two parts of ISEET - called Mains and Advanced and that of the respective 12th Board Examination will be considered for final admission. Further details of the pattern of examination and weightage to be given for the three components for different Engineering Colleges across India are yet to be elaborated by the authorities.

+ 2 Board Weightage:-

With a view to bring State Governments on board to use ISEET as an entrance exam for state level engineering colleges, a Conference of State & UT Education Ministers' was held on 22nd February,2012 in New Delhi. The proposal for a common national examination with effect from 2013 with weightage to State Board results, normalized on the basis of percentiles formula, was endorsed "in principle" by States. The States of Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Puducherry and West Bengal sought more time to study the proposal in detail. It was also decided that states may decide on adopting the same pattern for admission to State-level engineering institutions with appropriate weightages as States may think fit.

Academic Content by IITs:-

During the conference, it was informed that the academic component of the Main and Advanced examinations would be handled by IITs whereas the management and conduct of the examination would be done by CBSE in collaboration with State Boards. It was informed that the IITs and other Central Educational Institutions were proposing to adopt a weightage of 40% for State Board marks.

There was also a talk that the ISEET may be conducted more than once a year too. However, this point needs further clarification.
